A 21-acre park for nature lovers is right outside your door.

Enjoy West Ridge Nature Preserve, an Urban Oasis

At Anderson Point, you are going to love having so many fabulous things just a short walk from home. In fact, Anderson Point is given a Walk Score® of 96—a “walker’s paradise!” Today we wanted to put a spotlight on one incredible destination located walking distance from Anderson Point—the West Ridge Nature Park.

This gorgeous 21-acre park is an oasis for nature-lovers living in the city. Opened in 2015, the park offers native plants, boardwalks, and even a fishing area. For years the area was undeveloped woodland, and in 2011 the Chicago Park District restored the land and renovated it into an oasis of flora and fauna. The park offers paths that curve around wetlands, savannas, and an oak woodland.

At the park you can enjoy:

  • Walking or jogging on multipurpose trail—with nearly a mile of paths, including boardwalks over the wetland
  • Taking in views an nature in the restored woodland and 4.5 acre pond
  • Spotting animals, including deer, butterflies, turtles, and over 150 species of birds
  • A nature play area with natural materials and structures to encourage fun and creative play
  • Regularly scheduled Nature Walks, Bird Walks, and Fishing Clinics
  • Self-guided activities like iNaturalist Monitoring, “Dear Human" Virtual Tour, and a Storywalk

Note, in order to protect the wildlife and encourage migrating birds to visit and return to the area, dogs are not allowed in the park.
